Week beginning 31st January 2022

Monday Forest School

Today the children will be thinking of ways to cross a river using items from the forest.  They will be trying to win the Great River Race (Chinese New Year). Make a pretend river at home and see if you can find ways to cross is using items from around the house.

Happy Chinese New Year Tuesday 1st February 2022

R.E.

This afternoon we continue our learning about Celebrations, by learning more about the Chinese New Year.

Last week we listened to the story behind the New Year.

Can you remember the order in which the animals finished the race?

See the link below to remind yourself, if needed. We used character masks to retell the story and did a sequencing activity.

Look at the following powerpoint to learn more about how the Chinese New Year is celebrated.

2022 is the Year of the Tiger.

We will be setting up a Chinese restaurant in our role play area.

Can you use chopsticks? Try eating with them, if you have some at home.

We will be making cards and colouring tigers (see below).

Red represents fire and is the most popular colour in China. It represents happiness, success and good fortune.

Find out which year you were born. It will either be 2016 or 2017.

2016 was the year of the Monkey.

2017 was the year of the Rooster.

Can you find out about other members of your family?

There are many other craft activities you could try if you'd like to. What about making a lantern and decorating it with red and gold?
