Safeguarding

Safeguarding Intent Statement

Our Commitment

At Cheapside CofE Primary School, safeguarding is our highest priority and everyone's responsibility. We are committed to protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of their mental and physical health or development, ensuring they grow up in circumstances consistent with safe and effective care, and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes. Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education

As a Church of England school, we create a nurturing Christian environment where every child feels valued, safe, and able to flourish, rooted in our values of love, compassion, and respect.

Our Approach

We recognise that school staff are in a position to identify concerns early, provide help for children, promote their welfare and prevent concerns from escalating. All staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education

We are committed to:

  • Creating a culture of vigilance where staff understand their safeguarding role and feel confident to raise concerns
  • Listening to children and ensuring they know how to report concerns and will be taken seriously
  • Working in partnership with parents and carers whilst maintaining our duty to safeguard all pupils
  • Training all staff with regular updates to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns
  • Collaborating with external agencies to ensure children receive the right help at the right time
  • Maintaining robust policies and procedures that are regularly reviewed

We facilitate a whole school approach to safeguarding, ensuring that safeguarding and child protection are at the forefront and underpin all aspects of our work. All systems, processes and policies operate with the best interests of the child at their heart. Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education Keeping Children Safe in Education

Supporting All Children

We recognise that some children face additional vulnerabilities and are particularly alert to the needs of children with SEND, children known to social care, and those who may face other barriers to learning and wellbeing.

This statement underpins our child protection policy, which is reviewed annually and available on our website.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

All schools must have a DSL.  The DSL at Cheapside School is Joanne Butler - the Interim Headteacher.  The Deputy DSL is Matthew Wickenden - the Assistant Headteacher.

Should you have any safeguarding concerns or queries please contact the school to speak to DSL or DDSL.

The role of the DSL is to:

  • Take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety and understanding the filtering and monitoring systems you have in place)
  • Support staff members to carry out their safeguarding duties
  • Liaise closely with children’s social care and other services

The DSL's main responsibilities are set out on pages 28 and 29 and in Annex C of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2023.
