Hello and welcome to the Owls - Year 6 class page! This is where you will find all the information you need to know about what we will be doing in Year 6 this academic year. There are so many exciting things to look forward to and lots of learning ahead. This last year at Cheapside CE Primary is going to be brilliant!
Meet the Teacher
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and guardians that attended the Zoom call on September 23rd. Please see PowerPoint below, as well as any other relevant documentation.

Year 6 Autumn Term Timetable
The children are expected to read and are encouraged to do 10 minutes of TTR (Times Tables Rockstars) every evening.
English/topic and maths homework will be set on a Friday and will be due in the following Friday, ready to be marked in class, going through any issues that have arisen.
KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts) are great for helping the children to increase their speed of recall. The secret to success is practising little and often. Can you practise these KIRFs while walking to school or during a car journey?
The children will be provided with a list of either common exception words, topic related words or vocabulary based on building and extending spelling knowledge and understanding that pupils should be familiar with by the end of Year 6. They will be tested on these words every Tuesday.
If your child would like to carry out additional tasks for homework, please feel free to purchase any of the following recommended booklets available online:
- Year 6 Collins Maths and English Practice Workbooks
- Year 6 Scholastic National Curriculum Practice Books
- Year 6 Rising Stars Achieve SPaG, Maths and Reading Workbooks
Wednesday 8th September 2021 – Class Debate
Year 6 read chapters Christopher’s House and Driving from the book ‘Wonder.’
They thought about what the parents were arguing about and whether they were for or against the idea of August going to school.
They explored reasons why it might be good for him to go to school as well as why might it be good for August to be home-schooled instead. Year 6 brainstormed their ideas and reasons and facts to defend their opinions.
The class then had to choose whether they were ‘Team dad’ or ‘Team mum’ and had a debate.
Tuesday 21st September 2021 – P.E.
Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their P.E. lesson with Mrs Higgins this morning! They put their basketball skills to practice and challenged each other through team building and competitive activities.
